Word Count Fiesta--April (A montly state-of-the-writing address...)

Thanks to mini_wrimo, I realized that I write better, more regularly, and with more accountability if I write every day and record my word count. So far, the plan is working, and this is my fourth monthly update...

April's writing was more up to the speed I need to be at, but my spn_j2_bigbang rough draft was rougher than I would have liked when I sumitted it on May 1… mostly because my entry for trekreversebang took on a life of is own. I’m actually very pleased with how that fic turned out. I had the privilege of illustrating coldmero’s beautiful art with a story, and it was a lot of fun to write. The story is undergoing it’s final beta edits as I type, and it will be posted at trekreversebang this Wednesday, May 12, 2010. May 12 is the day the Trek Reverse Bang kicks off, so if you like Star Trek or even think you might have the slightest interest in reading some Trek fic or seeing some really amazing art, check out that community on the 12th and throughout the rest of May and into June as new fics will be posted each day.

Of course, I got distracted by the totally awesome comment fic meme at hoodie_time and finished writing the fic for that meme that I started in April. Oh, and I also wrote my entry for lgbtfest. It doesn’t post until June 8, but it’s ready and waiting! I got something done early for once. I didn’t know it was possible!

I am also extremely happy to announce that while I didn’t get to do any work on it this month, “The Fulcrum of the Force,” sequel to my 2009 fic for spn_j2_bigbang, "Hunters of the Dark Side," has found a home and a rough posting deadline. In case you haven’t yet heard, there is a completely awesome, mind-blowingly cool new fic challenge, the deancasbigbang! (*points* That’s what the banner at the top of the post is all about!) Signups start May 15, 2010, and the completely awesome mods are ready and waiting to answer your questions, and there are all kinds of amazing graphics you can use to pimp the comm. Run, don’t walk, to sign up for it when signups open on Saturday. You know you want to!

It may be a little spoilery for “The Fulcrum of the Force,” but Dean and Cas are central characters to that fic, and this new big and mini bang community seems like the perfect home for my it. Big bang posting for the deancasbigbang will begin in October, so right now it looks like my sequel is on schedule for October 2010… only a year later than I had anticipated having it done, but it will be worth the wait, I promise!

* My entry for lgbtfest; will be posting in June!
** My finally titled(!!) entry for the 2010 spn_j2_bigbang Challenge. This number doesn’t count the additional several thousand words I added to get it ready for draft submission that I know are crap, and I’m going to edit and tear apart before it’s posted.
*** A hurt!Dean fic written for the Dean-focused hurt/comfort comment-fic meme (#2) at hoodie_time. I have since finished it and posted it here. I started this fic in March and actually posted the link in March’s word count fiesta, but just in case anyone missed it, there it is again!
**** My entry for the trekreversebang challenge, written to illustrate some beautiful art by coldmero. It’s posting on the 12th!! That’s WEDNESDAY. It will have a title by then, I swear!
